Bitter Freedom is a book written by Jafa Wallach that tells the story of one jewish family's survival during the Nazi Occupation of Galicia in Southeastern Poland. The family was taken in by a local mechanic, Jozef Zwonarz, who literally built an underground space in his shop for the family to hide. It is an amazing account of survival and love. Jafa Wallach wrote the story in 1959, and her daughter Rena Wallach Bernstein found the manuscript and had it published.
